A self-assessment tool for California vineyards and wineries to measure their level of sustainability and to learn about ways they can improve their practices. The workbook addresses ecological, economic and social equity criteria through an integrated set of 15 chapters and over 200 best practices.
The CSWA website is comprehensive source of information about sustainable winegrowing. The Resources section includes written and video case studies about best practices implemented at specific wineries and vineyards, publications on water efficiency, carbon footprints, biodiversity, and an extensive section of resource links. There is also information on Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing, the Sustainable Winegrowing Program, participation, and much more.
Full sustainability reports (in 2004 and 2009 show the level of sustainable practice adoption among vintners and growers who participate in the self-assessment program for each of the sustainability practices covered in the Code workbook. Interim Progress Reports (in 2006 and 2012) highlight grower and vintner participation, Sustainable Winegrowing Program accomplishments and acknowledge CSWA's many collaborators.
The website includes extensive information about California’s wine regions, wine varietals, wineries, events and more. It also has an interactive Sustainable Winegrowing section which, in addition to information on sustainable practice, provides links to both educational and third-party certification options available for California vineyards and wineries.
A new book by California’s Wine Institute shares the stories of 15 vintners and growers, representing thousands across the state, and how they embrace sustainable practices throughout the cycles of the winegrowing calendar. The hardcover book features beautiful wine country photography and a dozen fresh, seasonal recipes.
